ACCOUNTING FOR SMALL BUSINESSES

“Accounting” means providing timely and accurate financial information for decision making.  While we don’t provide in-house accounting and/or payroll services, we encourage you to understand the difference in the levels of accounting professional your business may require:

A “bookkeeper” is someone who understands how to process financial transactions to create financial reports, including an income statement, a balance sheet, and payroll.

A “CTEC” tax preparer is someone who completes a 60 hour course in tax preparation and is licensed to prepare taxes for the public.  There is no other education or experience requirements.

An “Enrolled Agent” is an individual who has passed a rigorous process with the IRS and is able to represent their clients with the IRS and FTB.

A “Certified Public Accountant” is an individual who has passed a national examination, completed at least a Bachelors Degree (often also a Masters Degree), has accumulated sufficient supervised accounting experience and is required to complete 80 hours of continuing education every 2 years.  This is the highest level of professional you can secure for tax and/or accounting purposes.

We know it’s your business – let us help you make it a great business!  Be sure to choose your professional partners carefully.
